Day 28: Nick’s Hot Wings & Grill House- 6506 Laurel Canyon Blvd., North Hollywood, CA

The restaurant: We didn’t really get to soak in the atmosphere because we got there 12 minutes before closing time, and the man behind the counter all but told us we had to order to go. The dining room looked like a cafeteria in an old folks’ home in Mexico, and was complete with three empty, out-of-order vending machines. For all the manly men out there, the entryway features a giant picture of a woman from the neck down in a tight referee shirt with half-exposed fake boobs holding a basket of wings with the tagline “Keep your eyes on the wings.” Original. Classy. Nick’s Hot Wings & Grill House.

The wings: 16 wings for $13.05.  They gave us a ton of carrots and celery, perhaps to make up for the petite lady-sized wings.  They were easily among the hotter wings we’ve eaten this month, but it was hard to notice because we finished each wing in a bite and a half.  They were better than the Yelp reviews suggested, but not good enough for our stamp of approval.
